Note di degustazione
The 2008 Barolo Villero is the most polished of the four 2008 Baroli I tasted. An open, spiced bouquet leads to layers of expressive dark fruit in this harmonious mid-weight Barolo. There is plenty of muscle and tannin here, but those elements are nicely balanced throughout. Spice and floral notes reappear on the finish, adding an element of much-needed lift to this otherwise massively tannic wine.

If Oddero could only find consistency, this range would be significantly more impressive. It’s the details that count, but more often than not, I feel like nuances don’t get enough attention here. Dark crimson with a rusty rim. High-toned, piercing nose. Transparent and expressive. Dusty finish but could only be Piemonte. Lively and beefy and lots of pleasure. Very alive on the palate. Massively fruity palate entry and then a dry but not drying finish and a fan of flavours. A substantial wine. Very long. (JR)
Castiglione Falletto. Mid ruby with broad orange rim. Savoury tea leaf and tobacco. Slow to emerge on the palate. Brooding. (WS)
