1972 Château Petrus

Pale ruby with some strong brown notes. Smells so rich and seductive! Perfumed and wonderfully heady. Light bodied and sweet. An aperitif-style Petrus! (Served with canapés on the terrace.) Clean. A very good start even if at the end it's a little dried out and not wholly fresh. Slightly dusty, tired finish. But a wine on the way down with a beautifully rich initial impact. (JR)
