Punteggio 98/100 · Da bere 2015-2037, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

A wine that will give Beaucastel’s Hommage a Jacques Perrin cuvee a run for its money, the Mourvèdre-dominated 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape le Tintot is a powerhouse effort that offers incredible notes of beef blood, iodine, seaweed wrapper, smoked meats and layers of ripe fruit. About as full-bodied as they come, with a stacked mid-palate and building, sweet tannin, it’s still a baby and has some upside.

Opaque purple. Pungent dark berry and licorice aromas are complemented by smoked meat and dark chocolate. Youthfully brooding flavors of chewy blackcurrant and bitter cherry stain the palate, with juicy acidity providing verve. Finishes with strong minerality and lingering smokiness. Manages to be both powerful and lithe, but I wouldn't open one of these for a while.

Inky purple. Deep, smoky scents of blackberry, candied flowers and baking spices are underscored by a gentle cured meat quality. Mineral-laced dark berry and kirsch flavors are nicely supported by velvety, building tannins, which eventually shut down the wine's finish. This cuvee is made of 100% mourvedre and couldn't be more different from the Quet.
