Tablas Creek's answer to Château de Beaucastel's Hommage à Jacques Perrin, the 2022 Panoplie is 67% Mourvèdre, 18% Grenache and 15% Syrah. The nose is immediately coiled yet alluring, showing hints of Mourvèdre-driven herbal, earthy tones with impressive refinement and clarity. The palate combines plush, sappy, juicy textures with admirable weightless intensity, transitioning to a harmonious, sophisticated finish that rapidly and ceaselessly evolves in the glass. The centerpiece bottling from a centerpiece Paso Robles property, it will be a thing of beauty to follow this wine over the next two decades.
The 2022 Panoplie is a radiant, dark beauty that slowly emerges with a whiff of incense and exotic spice, giving way to dried orange peels, sage and peppery wild berries. Deeply textural and nearly creamy in feel, it is somehow lifted by a liquid floral concentration and masses of ripe red and black fruits that saturate the palate. Brisk acidity maintains freshness and energy despite the 2022’s aggressive tannic edginess. The finish is dramatically long, leaving steely mineral tones and an air of rosy inner florals. The future is bright, but patience is required.
