Note di degustazione
The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is earthy and intense, with masses of ripe red and black fruits lifted by a whiff of pine and mint. Cooling acidity maintains a fresh persona as waves of citrus-laced black cherry leave a saline mineral saturation in their wake. It takes a turn for the worse on the finish. Both bottles I tasted had corks that were mostly saturated, despite having come directly from the estate's cellar.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the more open, accessible wines of the vintage. Dried red cherries, flowers, tobacco, spices and herbs are some of the notes that emerge from this attractive, fleshy Brunello. In 2006 the Pian delle Vigne is especially elegant, silky and refined, with gorgeous textural elegance and lovely overall balance. The Pian delle Vigne was fermented in stainless steel and spent 24 months in oak prior to being bottled.

Deep, maturing ruby. Seductive, but developed nose of dark fruit and hints of tar. With air this becomes quite rich on the nose, and more fruit driven. Very concentrated and extracted on the palate, very modern, but with depth, and with lots of slightly drying tannins giving it a serious edge. (WS)
