Note di degustazione
Almost no trace of sweetness as it hits the 53 year mark, just waves of saffron, orange zest, savoury lemon rind and juicy citrus. A beautiful wine that has weight through the palate without being heavy, showcasing the success that Sauternes found in this vintage compared to most of Bordeaux. 50% new oak. Bought by the Rothschilds in 1984, at this point Rieussec was in the hands of Alain Vuillier.

The 1971 Rieussec is (yet another) standout Sauternes from a stellar vintage for the region. The bouquet bursts from the glass with dried honey, quince jelly, peony, grated coconut and peach skin, all beautifully defined. The palate is extremely well balanced, the inherent richness countered by the razor-sharp line of acidity and a surprisingly citric finish. Excellent.
Now fully mature, the 1971 Rieussec has a light-intensity, honeyed, ripe apricot, oaky nose, a ripe, sweet, full-bodied feel on the palate, and a crisp, spicy finish. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 10/80.
