Mid ruby. Very slightly reduced on the nose – not unpleasantly so. Sweet start and then some cordite and then very tough tannins. Long-term wine. (JR)

Le Chiuse's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty, supple wine built for near and medium-term drinking. Dark red cherries, iron, savory herbs, plums, smoke, sweet spices and new leather all open up in the glass, followed by distinctly floral overtones that add further nuance. Ideally, the tannins need time to soften, but I fear the fruit will fade before that can happen, as the slightly forward aromatics suggest the wine is on an accelerated path of evolution.
Deep, concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Iron and a little closed at first. Powerful palate with concentrated-but-backward fruit, yet a perfect balance and elegant mid-weight mouthfeel. Definitely needs age. (WS)
