Mid cherry red. Rich and layered nose. Angular on the finish. Tentative. Awkward astringency. Is this trying to be new Napa? (JR)

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is quite pretty. The addition of 17% Malbec gives the wine notable texture and richness. Plums, red cherries, mocha and spices are all beautifully delineated in the glass, but it is the wine's total sense of balance that truly stands out. This effortless, gracious Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon should drink well for the next decade-plus.
Davies Vineyards’ flagship wine is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot) from Napa. Its dark ruby/purple color is followed by a complex bouquet of underbrush, spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries and blackcurrants. The color is a healthy dense ruby/purple. The wine possesses good acidity and freshness and a boatload of complexity. There is no shortage of richness or concentration in this elegantly-styled Cabernet. Drinkable now because of the vintage character, yet it should age nicely for 15+ years.
