Occupying the second ring in a tight portfolio of three wines is the 2022 Montevertine. This is 90% Sangiovese with smaller parts Canaiolo and Colorino that starts off in cement and matures in botte grande. Winemaking is straightforward, traditional and hands-off. However, the intensity is taken up quite a notch compared to the Pian del Ciampolo. This wine shows extra ripeness and more of those Tuscan, sunshine-driven flavors of dark fruit and plum. It also has more volume and layering that is typical of this succulent vintage. It's really lovely. Montevertine reveals complexity and great freshness too, which keeps it in check. This is a release of 30,000 bottles.

A classy wine with bright, polished aromas of red cherries, bergamot, licorice and a touch of leather. The palate is elegant, with medium-bodied, relaxing, velvety tannins that are firm and integrated, crisp acidity and a long, warming, savory finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.
The 2022 Montevertine is a very promising wine, especially for this warm, dry year. Interestingly, the 2022 is more “classic” Montevertine than the 2021 tasted alongside. Crushed flowers, red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and mineral undertones all take shape in the glass. I am very intrigued to see where this goes. There’s a ton of potential here.
The 2022 Montevertine is a total stunner. Readers will find a wine of uncommon depth and resonance, all in the classic Montevertine style with the purity of fruit of today's wines. Dark red cherry, red plum, blood orange, pomegranate, spice, menthol and rose petal stain the palate. All the elements are so well balanced. Silky tannins are completely incorporated in the wine's fabric. This is super-impressive. Montevertine is increasingly the wine for the shrewd consumer to buy here.
