Bright medium red with a palish rim. Slightly musky, subdued red raspberry and mineral aromas show good energy and purity. Pristine and tightly wound, displaying a fine-grained texture and lovely inner-mouth floral lift. A very pretty wine with a light touch and subtle rising length without any hardness. This steep, south-facing, high-altitude site features thin soil over chalk and consistently produces wines with high-quality tannins, according to Barnier. The yield here was less than 15 hectoliters per hectare, but this very promising premier cru is nicely balanced.

The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux has a pure, quite lush bouquet with plenty of juicy red berry fruit laced with leather and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, juicy tannin, not the most complex Beaune on the block but with admirable structure on the saline finish. Fine.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
