The 1999 Haut-Condissas has a more sophisticated bouquet than the 1998, much more nuanced and takes its time to open in the glass. Less extrovert than the previous vintage, it gradually opens with blackberry, blueberry, violet and Indian ink aromas, almost Margaux-like in style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, a subtle marine influence here with a tightly wound, lightly spiced finish that exerts a gentle grip in the mouth. This is a stylish 1999 that appears to be maturing well, even if I just miss the outgoing nature of the 1998. Incidentally, this was the only vintage where Michel Rolland consultanted as he was succeeded by Ricardo Cotarella. Tasted at the Haut-Condissas vertical at the property.

This wine is dense purple in color with sweet black currant fruit intermixed with underbrush, mushroom, and new oak. This medium-bodied, ripe, yet elegant and well-balanced wine should be drunk over the next 7-8 years.

Bright full ruby. Sexy oak spices, blackberry and a floral note on the nose. Superripe, sweet and thick, with impressively deep dark berry flavors. Very concentrated but quite heavily extracted, giving the finish a slight dry edge. In a distinctly burly style.
