The 2014 Gironville has a clean and pure bouquet with macerated, small red cherries and crushed strawberry scents, a little vanilla still to be subsumed from the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, lithe in the mouth with slightly lower acidity. It has an easy-drinking quality that belies the balance and the freshness on the finish. Enjoy this over the next 6-9 years, possibly longer.

45% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot. 80% aged in barrel, none new. Deep crimson. Sweet, ripe dark plums on the nose but a little bitter on the palate, like bitter chocolate. Tannins are not tough but something has been pushed a little too hard here. Shame because the dark fruit is good. (JH)
