Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2015-2032, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The finest vintage ever from this estate, the 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is a flat out awesome, Provencal wine that’s made from mostly old vine Grenache mixed with 15% Mourvèdre. Notes of roasted meats, beef blood, peppery herbs and loads of ripe black fruits all give way to a full-bodied, huge, concentrated, thick and unctuous beauty that has integrated acidity and a finish that won’t quit. It’s at the early stages of maturity but has another 10-15 years of prime drinking.

A fantastic example of old vine Grenache and one of the firmer, more concentrated wines of the vintage. The 2007 Domaine de la Côte de l'Ange Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes possesses deep, rich aromatics of freshly cut flowers, crushed stones, garrigue, smoked meat and plenty of licorice infused Grenache fruit. The palate is medium to full bodied with a superb, silky texture, perfect balance and solid underlying structure that gives the wine a focused, tight and age worthy feel. I’d give these 3 to 4 years in the cellar and then drink over the following 10 to 15.

(80% grenache and 20% mourvedre) Bright ruby. Smoky aromas of blackberry, mulberry and fruitcake, with a strong mineral undertone. Rich, fleshy dark berry flavors are energized by zesty minerality and peppery spice, with no rough edges showing. Finishes with supple tannins, an alluring floral quality and excellent clarity and persistence.

Deep ruby. Blackberry and kirsch on the nose, with suave Asian spice and mineral notes adding complexity and energy. Velvety, gently sweet dark berry flavors stain the palate, with smoky minerals adding lift and cut. Finishes with clinging sweetness and excellent clarity. Very sexy wine, offering an intriguing mix of richness and vivacity. (My sample of the 2007 classique was out of whack and impossible to judge.)
