1988 Clos Vougeot

The Clos Vougeot, from a parcel of 70-year-old vines located next to the Chateau de Clos Vougeot, is superb. The wine is concentrated and intense, bursting with highly extracted, jammy, red fruits yet buttressed nicely by the use of toasty new oak; it should drink well for 7-8 years. Faurois is a great winemaker, and has been remarkably consistent in recent vintages. If you are fortunate enough to find the wines of Jean Faurois, you will rarely be disappointed, as this man is a meticulous craftsman whose handcrafted wines provide extraordinary pleasure.
