The 1991 Richebourg Grand Cru from Méo-Camuzet encapsulates everything, absolutely everything, this vineyard should represent at its plateau of maturity. With just a slight bricking on its rim, it is blessed with a bewitching, complex bouquet that unfurls with every swirl of the glass: red fruit, briars, freshly rolled tobacco, Earl Grey, blackcurrant leaf...it seems to constantly change with every passing moment. The palate is smooth and sensual, so much so that it disguises the depth and structure underneath. There is just the right amount of salinity in situ, still fresh and tensile after many years with harmonious finish that goes on and on. This is as majestic a Richebourg as you will find, one of the greatest that I have encountered from the Domaine. Tasted at Tour d’Argent restaurant in Paris.
The 1991 Richebourg is all silky suppleness, with a super-sweet perfume of black fruits, toasty new oak, roasted herbs, and flowers. Medium-bodied, with gorgeous concentration and a terrific, even explosively long, velvety-textured finish, this is an elegant wine for drinking over the next 7-8 years. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Rafael, CA. NOTES ON THE 1992s FROM BARREL: Meo's 1992s are among the most successful wines made in the Cote de Nuits in that vintage. They are even softer than the 1991s, with excellent concentration for the vintage.
