Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2040, Jeb Dunnuck, Oct 2025

The 2021 MunJebel Rosso FM is delightful all around, revealing wild raspberries, pressed roses, sweet cardamom spice, and smoky earth. Medium-bodied, the texture is great, with well-defined but refined, sweet tannins and a long-lasting and finessed profile. Coming from Feudo di Mezzo Sottana, it offers more spice notes than the Porcaria. There is another gear with this one, which is just a pleasure now or over the next 15 or more years. This was my first visit to the cellar of Frank Cornelissen, located in the northern valley of Etna, and I am already looking forward to my next visit. In this cellar, there’s no oak, and everything is aged in fiberglass tanks. It doesn’t take long to realize the numerous pitfalls imitators might face in trying to mimic this winemaking style. While on paper the winemaking might sound hands-off or cavalier, nothing could be further from the truth. Frank Cornelissen may very well be one of the most exacting and hardest-working winemakers I have met to date. He has thought everything through, and nothing is off-limits to analyze, improve on, and correct. There’s more to be said about all this, but for the time being, I’ll just say that my expectations were blown out of the water by these wines, which have a precision and detail that raises the bar both intellectually and hedonistically. Now isn’t that what great wines should be all about?

Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2027-2034, Eric Guido, Vinous

Violet and lavender tones give way to a whiff of sweet spice and crushed blackberry as the zesty 2021 Rosso Munjebel FM wafts up from the glass. This is elegance personified, with a silken wave of ripe red and blue fruits underscored by tactile minerals and a core of exotic spices. It’s quite cool-toned in feel, leaving a slight sour citrus tinge along with grippy tannins. There's a lot of complexity here that only further cellaring will reveal.
