Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2018-2022, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Aug 2018

This is the inaugural vintage of Biserno, or in other words, the beginning of a new chapter written almost entirely by the charismatic Lodovico Antinori. The 2007 Biserno is a blend of Cabernet Franc with smaller parts Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Following this vintage, the percentage of Cabernet Franc becomes even more important. In fact, you begin to recognize that Cabernet Franc purity starting with the 2012 vintage. Truth be told, the first official vintage of Biserno was 2006, but that wine was never released in a commercial capacity. This is a soft and beautifully textured wine. The problem, however, is that both samples showed mild Brettanomyces. I would have put a question mark next to my score, but I'm afraid this is the state of the wine, not any one bottle. The vineyards were only three to four years old when this wine was made. The 2007 and 2009 vintages were not filtered.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2015-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2011

The 2007 Biserno blossoms on the palate with layers of plush dark fruit, mocha, espresso and spices. It is a seamless, striking wine endowed with tons of class and finesse. The layers of fruit build impressively towards the explosive, racy finish. The Biserno is absolutely gorgeous in its feminine, refined personality, with floral notes that inform the sublime finish. The 2007 Biserno is predominantly Cabernet Franc, with some Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in oak (80%) and stainless steel (20%) and was aged for 15 months in new French oak barrels.

Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. ||Despite the ownership of Lodovico Antinori and the presence of an all-star team of winemakers that includes Michel Rolland, Tenuta di Biserno remains one of the best kept secrets in Bolgheri, at least in the US, where the wines have limited distribution. Hopefully that will change in the near future. Wine Advocate.August, 2011
