(a 40/40/20 blend of syrah, cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Full, deep ruby-red. Expressive aromas of plum, currant, smoke, licorice, chocolate and game. Concentrated, thick and penetrating, with black fruit and licorice flavors complicated by game. A very solid, chewy wine that nonetheless comes across as seamless. This blend works for me! Finishes with sweet, firm tannins that spread out to coat the palate. Late notes of mocha and nutty oak.

The 2001 (40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah, and 20% Merlot; 60% new French oak used in its upbringing) exhibits an inky purple color along with a big, sweet bouquet of creosote, tobacco leaf, blackberries, and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, with hints of peppery characteristics, moderately tannic, and persistent on the finish, it requires another 1-2 years of bottle age, and should drink well for 10+ years. Tel. (50% syrah, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 10% merlot) Saturated, full ruby. Wonderfully perfumed nose of black raspberry, bitter chocolate and exotic herbs and spices. Thick, chewy and lush, with lovely depth of fruit and compelling but restrained sweetness. Offers an uncanny combination of softness and underlying spine. The exotic spice character follows through on the palate. Very sexy, high-pH wine that should offer great early appeal.
