Note di degustazione
Bright, lemon-gold in color with a pale green rim, the 2007 Chardonnay Lauren Estate delivers earthy/stony notes of crushed rocks and damp soil to begin, giving way to provocative apricot preserves, pear tart and almond croissant notes with hints of acacia honey, struck flint and woodsmoke. Concentrated with a lovely oiliness to the texture, the full-on, full-bodied palate is bold and spicy, delivering a refreshing lift on the long, multilayered finish. I love, love, love Aubert's Chardonnays when they are young, but this is absolutely why collectors should try and hold some back for a few years: it's so crazy good! This wine was tasted from magnum, sourced directly from Aubert's library cellar.

The 2007 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard shows the natural richness of the year in its ample, richly textured personality. Here, the fruit is a bit more forward, with hints of honey, creme brulee and roasted almond that are all indicative of a wine that has reached full maturity. The 2007 might very well stay at its current plateau, but it won't get better. All things considered, the 2007 has reached this stage of its life gracefully.
(15.8% with a pH of 3.3; Aubert owns this seven-acre planting of Wente clones) Bright yellow. Knockout nose combines underripe pineapple, lemon drop, apple, pear, crushed stone, spices and minerals, plus a whiff of goat cheese that reminded me of a Burgundy from pure calcaire Supersweet and rich but with lovely harmonious acidity giving cut and verve to the penetrating flavors of nectarine, pear and dried candied fruits. Wonderfully tactile and vibrant chardonnay with superb persistence and finishing perfume. Here's a wine that would do major damage as a ringer in a flight of Burgundy grand crus.
