Punteggio 93+/100 · Da bere 2021-2042, Neal Martin, Aug 2018

The 2016 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is more reticent and perhaps not quite as complex as the Blanchots on the nose, but with aeration reveals gorgeous scents of dried flowers, hints of honeysuckle and beeswax. In the mouth Valmur is very well balanced and tightly wound, but there is enormous concentration on the back palate with a slightly viscous, nutmeg and walnut driven finish that fans out beautifully. This is one to watch.

The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is a rich, exotic rendition of this great bottling, exhibiting aromas of honeyed peach, crisp apricot and sweet spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, powerful and layered, with a deep and ample mid-palate, concluding with a long, saline finish. It's a textural, gourmand Valmur that I suspect may resemble the 2001 vintage when it reaches maturity.

One plot located on the left side of the valley, so sheltered from morning and afternoon sunshine. The fruit is more deep and more opulent with a lifted floral edge to the nose, leading to a very succulent, supple, smooth and even palate. Plenty of ripe white peaches. Great fluidity and smooth, long and fleshy presence. There’s impressive depth here. Drink or hold.

Pale yellow. Slightly exotic on the nose for Valmur, offering aromas of orange zest, lemon and spices. Then wonderfully silky in the mouth, delivering a sexy sweetness to its pliant flavors of citrus fruits and ginger. The yield here was an almost normal 40 hectoliters per hectare, compared to 25 to 30 for the Blanchots and Clos. There's a slightly glyceral aspect to this grand cru but also solid firming acidity.
