Oak much more evident at the moment compared with the Vaillons, with warm, ripe fruit on the palate and the extra concentration of the grand cru. Perhaps just a little too plush and exotic for classic Chablis? (AWH)

The 2019 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru was the standout from vat last year. Now in bottle, it displays brilliant delineation on a nose of yellow plum, wet limestone and light floral scents. The fresh, vibrant palate sparkles with energy and offers veins of tropical fruit that never impede upon the terroir expression. Impressive depth and length. Outstanding.
The 2019 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru was cropped at 25hl/ha from 45- to 70-year-old vines and matured in a mixture of 1- to 4-year-old barrels, for bottling in 2021. This has a very perfumed and slightly better-defined bouquet than the Blanchot. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, ripe but tense with superb mineralité already in evidence. Focused all the way through to the lingering finish, this is an outstanding Valmur in the making.
