Good deep red with ruby highlights. Somewhat reduced aromas of very ripe red fruits, game and leather, plus a suggestion of caramel. Fat, ripe and concentrated but dry, with primary fruits in the deep background today. This is the oddball today in this set of 2010s, and may well be in an awkward stage. With its solid tannin/acid spine this wine initially finished a bit dry, but it gained in sweetness with time in the glass.

The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles comes across as rich, powerful and concentrated. Some of the wilder notes typical of Gevrey come across on the finish, but ultimately, the Evocelles is a wine built on richness and sheer power. Layers of black fruit build towards the rich, intense finish.
Intense and savoury. Ambitious for the long term. Very dry finish but it should get there in classic idiom. (JR)
(from 55-year-old vines that yielded just 26 hectoliters per hectare, according to Boillot): Bright ruby-red. Cassis and strong spicy oak on the nose; this initially reminded me of cabernet! Dense, rich and seamless, with almost grand cru-like volume and suave texture. Fully ripe but classically dry wine with fine-grained tannins and superb dark berry persistence. "Fully 70% of the grapes were affected by millerandage ," noted Boillot. "We've never seen that here."
