The 2020 Chardonnay Monte Bello is an attractive, small-scaled wine. Naturally, the 2020 doesn't have the depth or complexity of the best years, but it is reasonably well balanced for the vintage. There is some aggressiveness in the texture, but that is the year. I would prefer to drink this on the young side, before those angular contours become more prominent. Lemon peel, white flowers, chalk and white pepper lend brightness. I just wish this had more depth of fruit.
