Grilled raspberry, smoky, soft brambled hedgerow fruits, good quality, highlights the gourmet edge of 2014 but a little softer overall tjhan vintages on either side. Appealing and unfussy, still with the tannic grip that Sociando does so well. 47hl/h yield, last year with Vincent Faure as director. 100% new oak, unfiltered and unfined, 77ha in production.

The 2015 Sociando Mallet shows better in bottle than in barrel. It has an attractive, well-defined nose of wild strawberry and red currant plus traces of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and crisp acidity, and fleshier than some of its peers. A dab of spice surfaces toward the elegant if slightly austere and light finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
Tasted blind. Dark, concentrated crimson. Very dry and rather austere. But no worse than some of those lesser St-Estèphes! Just a bit leaden, with a green finish. (JR)
