Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2017-2027, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2017

The 2014 Staglin Chardonnay is a beauty offering a crisp, pure, classy style as well as notes of green citrus, toasted nuts, and solid underlying minerality. It’s not your over the top Napa Chardonnay and has a terrific classy, purity and elegant, and it going to evolve nicely for a decade or more, although there’s no need to delay gratification either.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2016-2025, Robert Parker, Oct 2016

The 2014 Chardonnay Estate displays some toasty oak, lots of spicy green apple notes along with white peach, and a hint of smoked hazelnuts, giving it somewhat of a premier cru Meursault identity. This is well-made and impressive, but has to take a backseat to the absolutely magnificent 2013. Drink both of these wines over the next 6-9 years.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2017-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2015

The 2014 Chardonnay is rich, layered and powerful, with plenty of apricot pit, orange blossom, honey, mint, peach and spice nuances. This is the first year in which the estate incorporated a measure of larger format barrels in the blend. As always, the Staglin Chardonnay is super-distinctive for its breath and power, although the 2014 is still holding quite a bit in reserve. There is a real sense of phenolic intensity in 2014, so another year or two of bottle age will be quite helpful.

The 2014 Chardonnay Estate shows just how magical Chardonnay is here. Creamy, ample and layered, the 2014 remains wonderfully vibrant. Orange peel, baked apple tart, spice and tropical notes all run through this gorgeous Chardonnay. This is the first vintage that saw the introduction of large-format oak (20%), a direction the estate has continued to pursue since then. When I tasted the 2014 prior to release, I thought it had room to grow. It sure has. What a gorgeous wine this is.
