Punteggio 91-93/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Oct 2024

Not yet bottled, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is liquid Provence in a bottle, offering a massive nose of mulled red and black cherries, peppery garrigue, leather, and smoked meat-like aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness on the palate, it has solid overall balance, a meaty, mouth-filling texture, and enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring. The blend is 70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of varieties, and this cuvée will spend two years in foudre before bottling.

The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Bois de Boursan, a blend of 70% Grenache Noir, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% of other varieties in unknown proportions, evokes aromas of dark cherries, olive, flowers and spices. Medium-bodied, round and concentrated, it's a bit rustic with a firm mid-palate and structured tannins, concluding with a slightly dry finish.

70% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 10% other varieties. Partially destemmed and vinified in concrete tanks (80%) and stainless-steel tanks (20%). Aged in foudres for 24 months. Certified organic. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Fruit compote, summer pudding and wild-strawberry nose. Firm tannins on the palate dominate. A dusty, earthy note and a slight greenness on the finish. Needs some time. (AC)

The 2022 opens in the glass with ripe raspberry, black cherry, cassis and cedar. Scheduled to age in large foudres for two years, ripe tannins offer the wine a good structure and framework. Finishing on a savory note, the 2022 looks quite promising at this early stage.
