(14.5% alcohol): Good full ruby. A bit more medicinal on the nose than the Rutherford Reserve, offering scents of blackberry, cassis and licorice. Also a step up in clarity and intensity of flavor, with its dark berry, violet and Rutherford dust flavors complemented by a subtle herbal element. Compared to this wine, the Rutherford Reserve comes across as blowsier and more evolved. Finishes with ripe tannins and excellent length.

A heady, seductively perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry liqueur, cherry-cola, vanilla and pipe tobacco, with spicy nuances adding energy. Broad, palate-staining blackcurrant and cherry flavors show impressive depth and a velvety texture, with tannins making a late and understated appearance.
