Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2012-2022, Robert Parker, Oct 2012

As for the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Marie Beurrier, it exhibits a deep plum/garnet color, lots of roasted herbs, beef blood, fig and kirsch notes, medium to full body, and earthy, tobacco leaf and underbrush notes in the mouth. Exotic, spicy and very Provencal, it should drink nicely for at least a decade. Henri Bonneau was in the hospital recovering from an operation at the time of my visit, so my tasting notes are from wines I purchased at retail. His 2006s should be released in late 2012, and my pre-bottling notes on those wines were published in issue 197 (dated 10-31-11). The 2006 Reserve des Celestins was rated (94-96) and the already bottled 2006 Marie Beurrier received a score of 91. Importer: Alain Junguenet, Wines of France, Mountainside, NJ; tel. (908) 654-6173

Dark red. Explosively fragrant nose displays a range of red fruits, flowers and herbs. A deeper cherry tone joins the sweet raspberry and strawberry flavors on the palate, with suave tannins framing the fruit. Finishes fresh, nervy and spicy, with a lingering cracked pepper note.

Bright red. Exuberant, powerful bouquet of wild red berries, plum and garrigue Primal and chewy, the red berry fruit joined by notes of damp earth and black pepper. Shows serious tannic structure on the long, solid finish.

Henri Bonneau

This very old-school property makes the most unique Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines are fantastically complex and Boneauu made it as it would have been produced 100 years ago in the commune, using methods that familiar to any of the 11 generations of vignerons in his family who preceded him.
