2014 Vosne Romanee Beaumonts

(bottled the day before my tasting): Healthy dark red. Blackberry, blueberry, licorice, crushed rock, wild herbs and bitter chocolate on the nose; smells a bit austere. Then surprisingly textured on the palate, with sweet dark berry flavors complemented by a note of dark chocolate. The tannins are still a bit youthfully tough but this rather closed wine nonetheless spreads out to saturate the palate on the back end. This vineyard was harvested on September 26, with potential alcohol at 12. 9%; the finished wine is 13. 2%
