A youthful red color, the 2022 Pinot Noir Reserve leads with notes of red cherries, cinnamon, pressed roses, and refined hints of mushroomy earth. It’s medium-bodied, with a lovely, graceful feel, and features a well-managed fruitiness and openness characteristic of the Dundee Hills, yet without feeling heavy. It’s a highly appealing wine now, though it should also drink well over the next 7-10 years. It was aged for 10 months in 35% new French oak barrels, followed by an additional four months in stainless steel before bottling. 3200 cases were produced. Founder and Willamette Valley native Bill Stoller died suddenly in April at age 74. What started in 1995 with planting ten acres of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on his family farm has expanded into a 225-acre estate. The first vintage was made in 2001, with Melissa Burr appointed as the founding winemaker in 2003. Today, Evan Rose leads the winemaking team. Bill’s commitment to sustainability and community was deep and impactful. The estate was the first in the world to earn LEED certification and has maintained B Corp certification since 2017.
