Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2017-2021, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Mar 2017

The 2010 Valdegatiles shows a warmer place and the wine had one degree more alcohol than La Mala. This is a more powerful wine, ripe and heady, with concentration and balance in an XL style. This is still a lot fresher than the 2011 I tasted last year, and it also has better balance; one extra year in bottle has done it good. The soils are slightly deeper and that tends to provide wines with more volume. They got 945 bottles that were filled in September 2012.

A lot of stewed red and black fruit on the nose and palate with some earthy and black-tea undertones. Full-bodied yet watery on the mid-palate. A little overdone and phenolic. Drink now.

(fermented in a combination of stainless steel and oak tanks, followed by 14 months of aging in French oak): Inky ruby. An assertively perfumed bouquet evokes ripe raspberry, blood orange, smoky minerals and Asian spices, with a suave floral quality and building spiciness. Dry and precise on the palate, offering red fruit and floral pastille flavors underscored by dusty minerality. Shows excellent power and clarity on the youthfully tannic, extremely persistent finish, which leaves spicecake and red fruit liqueur notes behind.
