The 2019 Nero d'Avola Don Antonio is impossible to ignore, with an intense bouquet of crushed ashen stones, dried roses, black raspberry and rubbed sage. Silky and elegant, it smooths over the palate with a massive wave of dark red and blue-toned fruits and spices, slowly gaining traction as saline minerals saturate. A web of fine tannin adds youthful poise, as the 2019 finishes structured and long, balanced by that textbook Nero d'Avola twang of sour citrus. This is the best Don Antonio I've tasted to date. This is already a pleasure to taste today, yet it has many years of positive development for patient collectors.

This is one of the bottles that symbolizes the Sicilian Wine Renaissance that started a few decades ago. The Morgante 2019 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Riserva Don Antonio is a real beauty with bold lines and big intensity. The inky and extracted style does evoke a winemaking style that was popular during the first decade of the new millennium, but Don Antonio pulls off that style with pride and confidence. There is plenty of black cherry and baked plum with spice, tobacco and tarry smoke over a full-bodied style. The alcohol content is high at 15%. Production is 20,000 bottles.
