The 2017 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru is concentrated on the nose, offering raspberry, wild strawberry, crushed stone and then a potent but completely simpatico floral element suggesting rose petals and peony. The palate is medium-bodied with crushed rocks infusing the mixture of red and black fruit; hints of black truffle and graphite come through with time. Serious and quite compelling. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru already translates the limestone terroir of the soils on the nose, which is very refined and cerebral, showing touches of blackberry and wild hedgerow, even flint. The palate is medium-bodied with elegant tannin and perfectly pitched acidity; not powerful but very intense. There is an airy quality toward the finish. I suspect this Ruchottes might drink young but will age in graceful fashion.

Based in Chambolle-Musigny, the domaine was established by Georges Roumier in 1924. The domaine started to bottle their own wines in 1945.
