2012 Truett-Hurst Petite Sirah Burning Man

The 2012 Petite Sirah Burning Man is, according to the winery, their “Big Kahuna” and is made “full tilt boogie.” This great Petite Sirah stands out as one of the more singular examples of this underrated varietal I have tasted. Proprietors Philip Hurst and Heath Dolan deserve abundant credit for this creation. Its black/ruby/purple hue is followed by copious amounts of blueberry, camphor, white flower and blackberry fruit intermixed with a hint of chocolate. This massive red carries its 15.3% alcohol graciously. The texture is deep, lush and opulent, the tannins surprisingly civilized, and the finish long. It can be drunk now by those who want to commit infanticide, but it has 30+ years of evolution ahead of it. Bravo! Tel. (707) 433-9545
