This is another Loire Valley-style sauvignon blanc from South Africa. Full and layered with sliced apple and hints of minerals. Pretty and lively. Screw cap. Drink now.

The 2011 Professor Black Sauvignon Blanc has a light nose of grass clipping and lime cordial aromas that are well defined but needs a little more vigour. The palate is well balanced with a touch of lime and peach on the entry and these leitmotifs are maintained right to the finish that is suffused with touches of vanilla and fresh apricot. Drink now-2013. Mike Radcliffe continues to produce very fine wines from his Stellenbosch estate, which also serves as a tourist magnet for the beautiful region. I still feel there is room for improvement in terms of imparting a little more finesse into the reds, but otherwise these serve as great value for money considering their quality.
