I had two very different vintages of their top of the range to taste side by side, including the riper, headier, more open and developed 2017 Mingre. I tasted it next to the 2018, which was a cooler year, and despite the fact that both wines have approximately the same alcohol, this 2017 definitely feels riper. The blend is also the same—40% Carménère, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Syrah and 10% Carignan—and the élevage similar—18 to 24 months in French oak—so the effect of the vintage was pretty obvious.

Smokiness on the nose, then rich, succulent black fruit with much softer structure than their other premium reds. With the heavy bottle and the expressive oak, this is clearly a luxury wine, but it needs to develop more complexity beyond the powerful primary fruit. (RH)
