Punteggio 92/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2015

The 2001 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard shows notable exuberance from the very first taste. Here the flavors are decidedly dark and intense, with tons of tobacco, cedar, leather and brown spices adding nuance. The 2001 will drink well for another decade, although it is not likely to improve much from here.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2005-2017, Robert Parker, Aug 2005

The medium ruby-tinged 2001 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard (13.8 acres) exhibits a floral, forest floor, Cotes de Nuits-like aromatic profile with plenty of black cherries in the background. It possesses a silky texture, but there is also plenty of tannin and structure in this big, fleshy, flamboyant effort. Rich and accessible, it may evolve and drink well for 10-12+ years. Barrel samples of the 2002s were all impressive, but these wines are not yet in the marketplace. Approximate ratings include Selleck (92-94), Jensen (90-94), Reed (90-92), Mills (89-91). Tel. Medium brick-red. The nose shows riper fruit than the Reed example (the alcohol here is 14%), with notes of cherry, strawberry, minerals and earth. Then bright, intense and high-pitched in the mouth, with palate-dusting flavors of red fruits, spices and minerals. Bright, harmonious acids contribute to the impression of inner-mouth energy. Long, dusty, soil-inflected finish. Like the Reed Vineyard offering, a fascinating and distinctive California pinot.
