The 2022 La Côte Patriarche Syrah comes from vines in the Red Willow Vineyard planted in 1986 and 2000. It was fermented entirely with whole clusters and matured for 17 months in 10% new French oak. The nose is bursting with red cherry, blueberry, charcuterie, coffee and olives. The palate is full-bodied and chalky with youthfully gregarious flavors enlivened by fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a long, gently savory finish. 231 cases were made.
The 2022 La Côte Patriarche is wonderfully perfumed, with a dusty blend of violets, lavender and pepper-tinge wild berries complicated by hints of blood orange. Silken and pliant, this possesses soft and round textures offset by tart red and black fruits, all elevated by a core of zesty acidity. The 2022 leaves a liquid floral concentration and notes of sweet spice, tapering off lightly structured with a primary concentration that provides a pleasantly chewy sensation.
Gorgeous, concentrated and sleek, this elegant wine is vivid in fruit flavors and has the lithe structure for further aging. White pepper, raspberries and blackberries are lifted by firm, polished tannins. Drinkable now, but best from 2028.
