Punteggio 90-92/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025

The 2024 Château Le Crock is 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, from minuscule yields caused by mildew pressure and excessive rainfall. Ripe currants, cassis, graphite, and sappy spring flowers and violets define the aromatics. It's medium-bodied, with a round, layered mid-palate, ripe tannins, and a solid finish. It's another terrific wine from the Cuvelier family, who also manage Château Léoville Poyferré.

A blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33.5% Merlot, 7.5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2024 Le Crock offers aromas of cassis, flowers, dark wild berries and spices. Medium-bodied, supple and sappy, it's elegantly layered with a juicy core of fruit, concluding with a floral, elegant finish.

Sage and white pepper spice, bright fruits, carefully balanced, leans into the vintage. Harvest 27 September to 7 October. 3.70 pH. Yield 16.72 hl/ha, the lowest ever after hail. They were on third year of organic conversion but chose to suspend this year. No second wine as a result also - they just really focused on the best of what remained. 30% new oak for ageing, in 500l casks, and amphora.

The 2024 Le Crock was picked from September 27 to October 7 at just 17 hl/ha. It is in its third year of organic conversion, so the mildew was acute. The Cuvelier family made the decision to discontinue and use minimal synthetic treatments instead. It has a straightforward, quite tensile nose with crushed stone filtering through black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, maybe just missing some depth and grip though there is ripeness on the peppery finish. Give this a couple of years once in bottle.
