The 2024 Laforge is laced with dark red cherry fruit, cedar, spice, pipe tobacco and worn-in leather. There's plenty of the forward fruit that is such a Laforge signature, but the 2024 is, of course, a bit restrained in this vintage. Floral and spice notes lift the finish nicely. Élevage is 80% new oak and 20% once-used barrels. Today, Laforge is the red I feel has the most potential.
The 2024 Laforge is aged in 80% new oak. The nose offers plenty of black cherries as touches of juniper come through with time, a touch more intense than that of the Teyssier. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and hints of liquorice and five-spice, leading to a compact finish that feels a bit short. Otherwise, this is a decent Laforge.
Black cherry, vanilla, and licorice pop in the nose. The wine is supple, with a round-textured profile, leaving you with a touch of refreshing mint, and licorice in the finish. The wine blends 92% Merlot with 8% Cabernet Franc. 14% ABV.
