Goes long on smoke and grilled cedar, bitter fennel on the finish, this has fruit character to it, but lacks some balance. Medium ruby colour, harvest October 3, 11hl/h yield, 70% new oak, same owner as Château Montlisse. Grape blend given is planted, not vintage. Julien Viaud consultant.

The 2024 La Clémence actually shows a bit more restraint and composure compared to recent vintages, maybe because of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with lighter tannins, fine balance and a little more mineralité on the finish. I have been hard on this Pomerol in the past but perhaps it is finally moving in a positive direction. I like it!
Espresso, cocoa, licorice, and red fruits come through in the nose, and on the palate, though the oak can be an issue for oak, averse tasters.
Plump red berry fruits, red cherries too and a little splash of kirsch– not a note I find often in this vintage. This is impressively hedonistic for the vintage and nicely held in balance, even if it seems like a bit of a dangerous juggling act to perform in a vintage like this. There’s a slightly confected floral note and one feels the oak is doing quite a lot of the work in bringing sweetness to this, but it kind of works.
