Punteggio 93-94/100 · James Suckling, May 2025

A crunchy young red with very al dente fruit, showing cherries and orange peel with some salinity and chalk at the end. Medium-bodied, it has brightness, freshness and fine tannins. Only 12.9% alcohol. A blend of 75% merlot and 25% cabernet franc.

More lifted aromatically than de Chategrive, less relaxed, more taut and more herbal too. Less creamy. Red and darker berries, cherries and sandalwood. A little oaky when re-tasted but with a nice crystallinity. Rather stern on the attack, but there is a pulpiness to the fruit that I rather like and even a hint of graphite in the midst of the mid-palate. Quite glossy and shapely. A success in the context of the vintage.

Lots of ripe black cherries, mulberries, graphite, and spice wood, as well as a lovely floral character, all emerge from the 2024 Château De Ferrand, a medium-bodied, nicely balanced 2024 that has ripe tannins, the moderate ripeness and depth of the vintage, and a good finish. It's well-made, balanced, and has ample character.

Grippy tannic frame from the start, this is pared back, confident, careful progression through the palate, limestone austerity a touch of lemongrass and fragrant tomato leaf alongside the vivid red and black cherry fruits, slim and savoury but with finesse. The Bich family continues to impress here. First certified organic vintage.
