A very light-bodied Pavie showing considerable amber at the edge, the nondescript nose seems to lack fruit but does offer up some dusty, rustic, earthy notes intermixed with vegetables and herbs. Light to medium-bodied, with shrill acidity and high tannin, this wine has nowhere to go but down. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/03.

As readers may have noted, I have been critical of recent efforts by Pavie because of their lean, austere, malnourished personalities. The 1993-95 efforts offer little evidence that things have taken a turn for the better. This is a severe, light to medium-bodied Pavie lacking fruit, texture, and charm. Spicy cherry aroma, with a distinctly green quality. Cherries and minerals on the palate. Like an older-styled, dryer Burgundy. Disappointing. The blend is 55% merlot, 25% cab franc and 20% cabernet sauvignon, typical for this property.
