I can’t wait to see how the 2010 develops over the coming years. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2030. I was deeply struck with the wines I tasted from Harris Estate Vineyards this year. The vineyards are located on the lower slopes of Diamond Mountain. Three separate blocks correspond to the Jake’s Creek, Lakeview and Treva’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons. The 2010s have turned out as good or better than I hoped based on last year’s tastings from barrel, while the 2011s, wines from a much more difficult vintage, are solid across the board. Tel. Wild aromas of blackberry, crushed rock, wet cement and mocha; smells tannic. Densely packed and powerful, but with firm acidity giving shape and lift to the musky dark fruit and coffee flavors. A bit more sharply delineated than the 2009 version but is it as dense? The long finish shows youthfully tough tannins that will require at least a few years of bottle aging.
