Now this was more like it! Obviously a top quality red bordeaux – very firm, still dark and concentrated and Cabernet-like. There was also lovely sweetness and perfume but the structure suggested there was still some good life ahead of it. (Look at that suggested drinking date!) Some acidity but lots of fresh fruit too. Very complete and long. Really vital. Excellent wine. Firmer than La Mission alongside. (JR)

The 1952 Haut-Brion was perhaps not the best bottle that I have tasted. Here, it's a little sauvage , earthy and rustic, with dark chocolate and melted tar scents on the nose. It does improve and cohere with aeration. The palate is full of dusky red fruit notes on the entry, quite meaty and Bretty in style. There's a bit of VA here, yet it holds together well in the well despite a soupçon of dryness on the finish. There are better bottles out there, but this was still enjoyable. Tasted at Ami restaurant in Hong Kong.
