Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2023-2028, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Mar 2023

Full bottle 1,241 g. Pinot Noir planted on glacial moraine soils rich in porphyry with a gravelly topsoil consisting of alluvial lime and clay. Grapes where destemmed and spontaneously fermented in wooden tanks. After three weeks of maceration with daily punching down, the wine was racked off into 500-litre oak barrels, of which 50% were new, in which it went through malolactic conversion and was aged for 20 months. Vinolok closure. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Very confident varietal nose with raspberry and hints of beetroot and a flattering oak note. Germanic rather than Italian in style, with an elegant, medium-weight palate. Smoky strawberry and raspberry fruit with lots of sandy tannins on the finish and supple, gentle, juicy acidity. A lighter style of Pinot Noir that reminds me a little of those of the Ahr. (WS)

The 2019 Blauburgunder is smoky, with wild herbs and camphor giving way to musky black cherries. It’s soft-textured with juicy acidity and lively rose-tinged red fruits and spices. There’s a bit of a green streak within, yet it doesn’t get in the way, as this finishes with a bitter tinge of clove and salted licorice.
