The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is another big, beautifully pure, multidimensional, textured and impressive effort revealing lots of creme de cassis and spring flowers, full body and long, sweet tannins. Again, brilliant winemaking has turned out a terrific 2010 that should evolve for two decades or more. Readers should not miss this portfolio of compelling 2010s. Kudos to former Ambassador to Austria, Kathryn Hall. I tasted eight cuvees of 2010 Cabernet Sauvignons from Hall. I will write abbreviated notes on the eight 2012s I tasted, which is a great vintage in Napa. Based on my experience with the Hall wines, they show better from bottle than from barrel samples, always a sign of a high quality winery. All of these wines possess splendid opaque blue/purple colors. A remarkable thing about all of Hall’s 2012s is that they should be accessible when released given the sweetness of the tannins, yet they should have 20-30-year drinking windows. Congratulations to Kathryn Hall. I have been high on her wines since I first tasted them in the offices of David Ramey. It is rewarding to see that she is realizing the enormous potential that accompanied her debut wines. Tel. (707) 967-2626

(15.1% alcohol; 70% new oak; mostly from the Sacrashe Vineyard in Rutherford): Good bright medium ruby. Sexy high-toned aromas of cassis, licorice, dark chocolate and minerals. Sweet, suave and pliant, offering a captivating combination of generosity of texture and underlying power. Broader than the Jack's Masterpiece but less sweet in the early going, showing a firm acid/tannin underpinning. Finishes with substantial dusty, ripe, seamless tannins and a chocolatey quality.
A flamboyant wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall flows across the palate with the essence of raspberry jam, spices, licorice, flowers and crushed rocks. This voluptuous, totally sexy Cabernet Sauvignon captivates all the senses with its sumptuous fruit and fabulous overall balance. The style is rich and opulent but also beautifully balanced at the same time. With time in the glass, the wine fleshes out a bit more, showing its considerable power and intensity. (AG)
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is gorgeous. Dark red fruit, flowers, minerals and licorice are some of the notes that emerge from this voluptuous, striking Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 is all class and elegance. It shows tons of structure and sheer power as it sits in the glass. Today the 2010 has all of the ingredients to be fabulous.
