Tasted at the property, the 1982 Château du Tertre has never been one of the best wines of the appellation and after more than three decades, it is going nowhere fast. On the nose: warm leather, dried blood and quite rustic in style, especially when juxtaposed against the more refined wines currently being crafted by winemaker Alexandre Van Beek. The palate is medium-bodied with soy-like notes on the entry intermingling with sour cherry, dried herbs and tobacco. "Hanging in there" are the three words I used to sum up this 1982. Do not delay drinking this wine up if you have any bottles. Tasted June 2015.

(50% cabernet sauvignon, 25% cabernet franc, 20% merlot and 5% petit verdot): Amber-tinged red. Captivating nose offers tertiary aromas of faded rose, orange peel and spicecake, along with delicate nuances of strawberry, raspberry and vanilla. Fresh and juicy on entry, showing lovely, delicate red berry and floral flavors nicely extended on the back by lively acidity. Once again, the cabernet franc component is very obvious here and gives the wine a strongly floral personality. This very pretty midweight finishes long and pure, though I would suggest drinking it up soon.
Light ruby with tea colors, the wine offers truffle, tobacco, cedar, cassis and cherry scents. Medium bodied, this is fully mature and needs to be drunk up.
Low-key, but a bit formless. Dry finish. (JR)

Until recently owned by the Albada Jelgersma family (along with Giscours), Ch. du Tertre is one of the oldest estates in the region – with a history stretching back 1,000 years. Classified as a Fifth Growth, its 54 hectares of vines sit on high gravel outcrops in Margaux.
