The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is just beginning to rev its motors and probably stands as one of Christophe Roumier's crowning achievements from this vineyard. It needs little encouragement to unfold in the glass with copious Morello cherries, bergamot and crushed stone scents, just a faint touch of Earl Grey. The palate is beautifully defined with beguiling symmetry, brimming with energy and exuding mineralité and breeding on the finish. A bit of a temptress. Tasted at Cave de Madeleine restaurant in Beaune.

The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is a fabulous wine that is going from strength to strength. There are just the first signs of bricking on the rim. The nose offers a cornucopia of red fruit, Earl Grey, hints of scorched earth and Provençal herbs, all constantly changing in the glass. The palate is beautifully balanced, fresh and fine-boned. There is real flesh here, to the point where I wondered whether it could be the 2009! My only question is the longevity of this Chambolle compared to Roumier's other crus. I might well be tempted to crack this open now (if I had a bottle). Tasted blind at the Roumier Les Cras vertical at Medlar, London.
The most sumptuous bottle – so rich, sweet and persistent. The intensity of fruit is such that the tannins (which are still there in the background) are almost completely covered up. Transparent, manages to be relatively delicate in the greater (non Burgundian) scheme of things. Throat warming. (JR)
Yes, I know, Roumier's 2010 Chambolle-Musingy Les Cras needs quite a bit more bottle age, but how could I resist ordering it? I couldn't, and it was fabulous. No regrets. Sure, the 2010 will be even better in another few years, but it was pretty terrific on this evening.
