Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2025-2033, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2025

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard is a wild, exotic wine. Super-ripe red cherry fruit, mocha, sweet spice, and copious French oak abound. This shows the flamboyant personality of a warm site in a warm year. Even so, the 2015 has aged well.

Greg Melanson’s vineyard on Pritchard Hill is very steep, with rows running up and down the hill directly across from Colgin Winery. Beyond Colgin, its rocky face looks down at Napa Valley’s floor. The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard was on skins for only about 13 days and pulled off soon after and was aged in new Darnajou barrels. Deep garnet-purple colored, it features aromas of stewed plums, sautéed herbs, cassis, damp soil, cigar box and beef drippings. The palate is full-bodied, firm, chewy and earthy with a savory finish.

The tile and dark fruit with hints of cloves and plums. Very aromatic. Full-bodied, yet tight and reserved. Velvety tannins and a very juicy and slighty austere finish. Delicious all around.

From the rocky soils high up on Pritchard Hill, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Melanson Vineyard is another sensational, singular wine from this estate. With a deep purple color and heavenly notes of plums, mulberries, blueberries, exotic flowers, graphite, and dark chocolate, it flows onto the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, concentrated mid-palate, sweet, moderate tannin, and a great finish. It’s one of the most singular Cabernets in the lineup, and will keep for 20+ years.
